Worthy Causes in Abundance at BLiP EXPO this year
We are devoting a section of BLiP, on the right hand side of the Arena as you enter, to a range of worthy causes that are committed to Making Life Better for both people and animals in the Algarve and wider Portugal.
They would welcome the opportunity to tell you about their work and perhaps there may be a way that you could assist them in their aims – not necessarily financially. You can find out a little about them below.
Those in attendance include:
A Rocha Portugal – a charity with the Environment, Education and Conservation at heart
Algarve Bombeiros – fire prevention and fire fighting; attending and assisting at scenes of accidents and natural disasters and emergencies; rescue and aid at medical emergencies; plus many and varied civil protection activities
Alliance Française – a non-profit cultural organisation
Alzheimer Portugal – the only national organisation in Portugal devoted to promote the quality of life for people with dementia, plus their families and carers
Animal Rescue Algarve – caring for and rehoming stray, abandoned and distressed dogs and cats
ANFINN – helping hundreds of needy families across the Algarve with furniture, clothes, household accessories, emergency food packages and much more
APAA – animal charity that rescues animals and rehomes them – many in other European countries
Arm in Arm Algarve – raising money to support the Bombeiros and families in need. They also have a charity van to collect furniture for selling or donating.
Ass. Guarda-Chuva – supporting families, disadvantaged people, the elderly and the community in general through difficult times. Also support for the Back to School campaign and bringing Christmas joy to children
Banco Alimentar Algarve – collect and distribute products, meals and food baskets to those in need
Casa N. Sra. Conceição – private institution of Social Solidarity Home (residence for female children and young people)
Castelo de Sonhos – support for families at psychosocial risk with children or young people; developing parental, personal and social skills and much more
L Goater Elu France – representing French people who experience insufficient consular services, lack of educational solutions in French, administrative difficulties and more
Madrugada Association – offers end of life palliative home care and support to patients and their families at no charge
Mamamaratona 22 – The Algarve Oncological Association providing alert for awareness and prevention of cancer, in particular breast cancer. Raise awareness of a healthy lifestyle and raise funds for fighting cancer and supporting patients and families
NCA Nederlandse Club Portugal – the large Dutch-speaking Association providing information to residents, entrepreneurs, property owners and prospective emigrants
REFOOD - Citizen-driven, 1005 voluntary, eco-humanitarian charity community, working to eliminate food waste and hunger
Refúgios dos Burros - a small private shelter situated in the Algarve countryside. Once only for donkeys, but now have around 150 animals of all kinds.
Royal British Legion – supporting ex-servicemen/women and their dependents
Tiny Shelter – care and rehoming of rescued animals
Tomorrow Algarve Charity – aiming to unite the local community via a monthly magazine, shining a light on and raising money for good causes.
